Nigella's Christmas Boat-Club Buffet

A buffet - or prol's banquet as I like to call it - is the perfect treat for a frosty winter's night with a select group of friends.  There's something magical about a really big bowl of chicken nuggets dusted thickly with Oxo granules, which makes me feel all luscious and yummy inside.
Forget neurotically fussing over decor and hygiene - simply feast your eyes across my delightfully bulging festive ideas.  Don't be mean, a buffet is all about having loads left over!

Crisps are a wonderful alternative to salad and will compliment the warm tones of beer and sherry, both of which your guests will probably bring.

You'll need some very special meat to compliment the crisps, and home-made sausages are always spectacular.  Serve cold, on a bed of dripping.
.

Just because you're having a stand-up party doesn't mean you can't serve fish and cheese.  I'm an absolutely gigantic fan of both, and my cheese and prawn boards are just the ticket.  Serve with a great big dollop of pasta salad, or sweet corn if you prefer.

But no buffet is complete without my absolute favourite, a gigantic bowl of unadulterated grated cheese.  It's the perfect dish for impressing a select group of friends, and take it from me, once you've tried it you'll be reaching for the grater every time the doorbell rings.  My secret weapon is to line the bowl with foil, which adds Christmassy sparkle.  Divine.

After the main course must come the delicious dessert....and this dangerously gorgeous chocolate fountain is absolutely worth the effort it takes to switch it on.  Douse liberally with lashings of Wispa bars and my other favourite, Twirl.

Don't forget the whipped cream to raise everyone's temperature a little....

These snowman-shaped biscuits - or bites of heaven, as I like to call them - are perfect for adding a splash of white to a mainly yellow and brown buffet.

Now you're ready for your select crowd of friends to arrive.  Usher them in to your Grotto of delights and join in all the fun.

I think those empty plates speak for themselves....!
